Guru Purnima also known as Vyasa Purnima marks the birthday of Ved Vyasa. It is a spiritual tradition in Hindu culture dedicated to Gurus, who are enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom.

Om Gurudevaaya Vidmahe parabrahmane Dheemahi Tanno Guru Prachodayaat
Offer gandha, pushpa (garland of fresh flowers, preferably white and yellow, too), dhoop, deepak to the living Guru or the picture along with Naivedyam (especially yellow coloured food such as saffron rice, any preparation made of yellow moong, kadhi, sooji, oranges, pumpkin, any yellow sweets such as boondi laddoo, kesar angoori petha, jalebi etc)
